Godzilla - Final Wars

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a Godzilla freak!

That giant lizard.. or whatever he is, had done more for foreign film than any other foreign film maker-person.  He’s a true inspiration.

Throughout his career Godzilla has had some golden moments and to be honest he’s had some real crappers!

One of his movies that lies somewhat in between is his last movie, Godzilla - Final Wars.  Released to celebrate the big G’s 50th anniversary, this film had the biggest budget of any Godzilla movie made prior - which isn’t really saying a lot.

The stars of this movie - the monsters or Kaiju.  Just about every moth infested costume was brought back for this film.  Though some appearances are brief, its cool to see these guys knock heads.  Godzilla even takes on our piece of s*** American Godzilla.

You can guess the out come!

So if you always wanted to watch one of his movies, but were too embarrassed to admit it, put this one in your queue.

Godzilla Final Wars:  I mean Keith Emerson, from Emerson Lake and Palmer did some of the music.  How can you go wrong with that!?

Newsies

Looking for proof that Disney forgot how to make movies?  Then look no further than the big musical piece of crap called Newsies.

I’m not exactly sure why I bring this movie up.  Maybe it’s because I’ve seen it and I wish to save you the horror.  Its that bad.

Plot?

Not much here…supposedly the movie is based on actual events, but it tells a story of a bunch of boys rallying together against the man!  Put in some random dancing with poorly written songs and you pretty much have it.

I’ve never been a big fan of Disney and Newsies proves my point that  the company no longer cared (and still doesn’t) what they spewed out.  Guess they figured as long as it had the stupid mouse logo on it, people would flock to see it.  FAIL!!

Newsies:  Watch a young Christian Bale sing and dance about Santa Fe.  Or better yet don’t…. just pretend you did.

One Crazy Summer

Filed under: In the Queue on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 by S.Trout | 2 Comments

Have you ever seen this movie?  Better question… have you ever heard of this movie?

Depends… you may have seen its Siamese twin "Better Off Dead".

This "comedy" was directed by Savage Steven Holland - creator of Eek the Cat.

Its kind of hard to describe this film.  The plot is rather pointless but its still funny… in a weird way.  If you are in the mood for something different this is the movie for you.

The roster does have some names - John Cusak, Demi Moore, Bobcat Goldwait and Bill Murray’s younger brother.

One Crazy Summer:  Like I said… hard to explain… but there are cute fuzzy bunnies in it!

Movie Blog - My Left Footloose

Filed under: Other Movie Blogs on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 by S.Trout | No Comments

As I have been diving into the blogosphere, it has become apparent that movies is big blog business!

There are some very cool blogs out there covering movies and film.  One of them is My Left Footloose.

This is a unique blog that in a way is kind of tricky to explain - to quote the author, "I have no suggestions about what to say about MLF.  It is what it is - we mash up movie titles."

If that doesn’t work you can go off their about spin:

Cinema in a blender, a movie mash-up: combine two or more movie titles that share a word to create a brilliant new meta-movie. Do it alone or with others, in the car, over dinner, or instead of uncomfortable conversations about relationships. Whenever and however you play, post your answers here for the world to share. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. It really ties the room together.

Well… that saved me a lot of time!

My Left Footloose - Look them up!  They’re good movie blog folk!

Almost Famous

Filed under: In the Queue on Monday, September 22nd, 2008 by S.Trout | No Comments

Sorry for the small break - been on vacation.. back to work!

Lets look at this overlooked movie, Almost Famous.  Cameron Crowe has made some good movie.  This is his best.

Its a great period piece that shows music and rock on the verge of becoming the big franchise that we now recognize today.

Philip Seymour Hoffman nails Lester Bangs as the music critic everyone hated.

Kudos also has to be given to Patrick Fugit for playing the innocent rock journalist wanna-be.  His performance is a true reflection of how music can be magical to those who love it and how it can also corrupt if you’re not careful.

And though I’m not the biggest fan of Jason Lee, he does play the part of the semi-paranoid neurotic rock star well.

The soundtrack is also amazing - Cameron knows how to pick em doesn’t he?

Almost Famous: Billy Cudrup should have kept the long hair and the mustache.
